Finally dragged Joe to see THE ISLAND yesterday. Tsk. What is wrong with the critics? I really LIKE this flick and would recommend it to anyone who likes action and/or SF flicks. Yeah you have to ignore the stupidity of the plot (clones who "remember" all the originals memories... pah. To quote Corina. Why IS it that people in Hollywood who have absolutely NO scientific knowledge think they can write science fiction? Somebody PLEASE explain that to me.
That small rant aside, Ewan MacGregor (or is it McGregor??) was terrific as always. Sean Bean (who was so wonderful as Boromeer (sp?) in Lord of the Rings) was great as the evil and money mad genius, the SFX were awesome if not a bit understated... I especially liked the two man jet motorcycle... holy moley batman! and the airbusses in LA in 2050 were pretty cool.
What really got me (as usual) were the visual elements of the film. In "cloneland" -- for lack of a better term -- the colors were soft, muted, clean. The place was muted all the way around. quiet, reserved. Oh yeah, loved the futuristic video game but seriously ... Microsloth coming up with something like that? (it was an Xbox) ... not bloody likely. Then when our heroes hit the real world the colors were vivid, too bright, garish. Great transition and juxtaposition. Loved it.
The movie had the requsite happy ending where the bad guys, who reallty were bad, got their just desserts, and the guy who could have gone either way showed he had a soul, our heroes got their happy ending ... satisfaction all round except for the bad guy who got his.
No torching again for days. Tried to get Joe's cold, shook it off then lost some major sleep and then had a migraine. jeez louise. Got to get to work today though. Last of last week's auctions ending and nothing new up. Plays havoc with my bottom line, let me tell you.
Oh yeah. Ebay redid their stores so I'm going to reopen mine (for the 3rd time). Now if I can just get my butt in the chair and MAKE BEADS to put there ....
